In June 2021 Peterhead School approached EF to assist with a refresh of the office furniture and storage systems its administration block. The overarching goal of the upgrade was to make it more usable, functional and modern.
Planning Process
During the first site visit to the school, four areas were identified for refurbishment, including the:
- Leaders Den - the Principal and two DP's shared an open office space with a table and chairs but lacked storage or a collaborative work space
- Reception Area - the main reception desk was very dated and built too low for the two receptionists to be comfortably seated
- Resource and Supplies Room - this space was in desperate need of some custom built storage units that fit the space
- Sick bay - this room was also in need of a larger more functional cabinet for medications and supplies to be housed securely
A thorough measure up of all four spaces was completed along with consultation to determine what office and storage systems the school had a preference for. Floor plans and drawings of each area were developed with proposed furniture options that would work best work within the spaces.
Whilst the majority of the proposed items were various iQuad cabinets there were some modifications required and also a couple of custom items, such as –
- A mobile large workbench for the resource room to house photocopier paper and the guillotine
- A large two person open reception counter (approx. 3000mm long x 900mm deep) with a return and small hutch and full front modesty panels
Quote Acceptance
By mid November 2021 the school had the green light to proceed with the upgrade project. A final site visit confirmed the furniture to be ordered (with some minor adjustments) and the two-tone colour scheme for all the furniture was finalised. The primary colour being “Ash Woodline” along with some drawer and cupboard door fronts to be made in “Storm”

Ultimately the administration block refit involved the manufacture and supply of a range of office furniture and custom cabinetry, including:

- 2400mm Whiteboard Cabinet
- Custom Reception Desk
- iQuad Credenza’s
- iQuad File Drawer Mobile Units
- Buro Metro Chairs
- Open bookshelves
- Custom mobile work bench
Office Furniture Manufacture & Delivery
Manufacture of the school's new office furniture was completed during EF's busiest Christmas period. Despite some Covid related materials issues, the team in the factory did an outstanding job, making sure all the units were completed in time for an end of January deadline.
On time delivery was also a major challenge due to Covid related logistics issues. To get around this, Kirsty, our Sales and Administration Co-ordinator and her husband (a licensed truck driver) pitched in and drove the new furniture down to the Hawkes Bay so the school could receive everything on time.
The Result
Placement of all the cabinetry along with wall anchoring was completed onsite by EF. This also included assembly of the custom reception desk and the whiteboard cabinet for the leader’s den.
Peterhead's senior leadership and administration team were absolutely delighted with the newly refurbished spaces. The administration block is now modern, spacious and functional with no shortage of storage or work spaces.
